Advanced Ballet

This is a ballet class for students who have completed Intermediate Ballet C. Class will consist of warm up and conditioning exercises, exercises at the ballet barre, basic steps and combinations of steps in the center of the room. The correct names of the steps (vocabulary) are taught as the dancer learns how to do each step. Emphasis will be placed on proper posture (placement) and doing the steps correctly. Dancers will study the lives of famous ballet companies and their directors, composers, dancers and choreographers. Research reports relating to these important people in the dance world are done once each quarter. Attending "dance" performances each quarter is expected and students are required to write a critique. Students will be given the chance to create their own ballet class consisting of a barre and center combinations as well choreographing short pieces of music. All students will perform a teacher choreographed piece in the Spring Dance Concert.

Pre-requisite: Intermediate Ballet C with a C grade or better or permission of instructor.
