Intermediate Ballet A
This is the second year of ballet. Class will consist of warm up and conditioning exercises, exercises at the ballet barre, basic steps and combinations of steps in the center of the room. The correct names of the steps (vocabulary) are taught as the dancer learns how to do each step. Emphasis will be placed on proper posture (placement) and doing the steps correctly. Dancers will study the lives of famous composers, dancers and choreographers. Research reports relating to these important people in the dance world are done once each quarter. Attending "dance" performances each quarter is expected and students are required to write a critique. Students will be given the chance to choreograph short pieces of music. All students will perform a teacher choreographed piece in the Spring Dance Concert.
Prerequisites: Beginning Ballet with a C grade or better or permission of instructor
Intermediate Ballet B, C
This is two ballet classes combined into one class. Ballet B is third year and Ballet C is fourth year. Class will consist of warm-up and conditioning exercises, exercises at the ballet barre, basic steps and combinations of steps in the center of the room. The correct names of the steps (vocabulary) are taught as the dancer learns how to do each step. Emphasis will be placed on proper posture (placement) and doing the steps correctly. Dancers will study the lives of famous ballet companies and their directors, composers, dancers and choreographers. Research reports relating to these important people in the dance world are done once each quarter. Attending "dance" performances each quarter is expected and students are required to write a critique. Students will be given the chance to choreograph short pieces of music. All students will perform a teacher-choreographed piece in the Spring Dance Concert.
Prerequisites: For Ballet B - Intermediate Ballet A with a C grade or better or permission of instructor. For Ballet C - Intermediate Ballet B with a C grade or better or permission of instructor.
