Performing Arts Singers

Advanced Choral Studies: P.A. Singers. This group is for Roosevelt’s elite vocal performers. Made up of accomplished soloists and performers who quickly master repertoire of the highest difficulty, members are expected to wow in both ensemble and solo settings. An audition/invitation only class, this choir requires advanced choral experience and an ability to learn music quickly. Members gain a solid foundation in music theory, history and performance techniques. This group will compete in multiple choral festivals as well as perform in a variety of public performances.

Unique to Roosevelt is the focus on developing solo voices. In addition to a rich and varied repertoire of choral literature, students will have an opportunity to be introduced to advanced vocal techniques through the performing of solos in class and in public. The P.A. Singers have an additional performance each year known as “P.A. Night” where they will have a chance to showcase their many talents.

Advanced Women’s Choir

Advanced Choral Studies: Advanced Women’s Choir. This group is for female students who show exceptional vocal and performance potential and a desire to improve at their craft. An audition/invitation only class, this is a women’s choir which performs advanced repertoire and choreography of the highest difficulty. Members gain a solid foundation in music theory, history and performance techniques. This group will compete in multiple choral festivals as well as perform in a variety of public performances.

Success in this course may lead to advancement into other R.S.A. groups such as the P.A. Singers.

Advanced Vocal Technique & Materials

Advanced Vocal Technique and Materials: Studies in Performance. It is ideal for those students planning on majoring in performance or to other students who show great vocal potential by permission of instructor. Prerequisite: Must have a good musical ear and some music reading skills. Student must have a willingness to perform a variety of repertoire from the standard literature, both classical and musical theater.

Advanced Vocal Technique and Materials is an applied study of advanced solo voice techniques and repertoire in an instructor/small group of students setting. The instructor and student meet several times a week during the semester. Repertoire is assigned on an individual basis and will include at least 6 songs and arias of contrasting styles and languages, as well as technical studies that target specific aspects of voice building.

Chamber Choir

Advanced Choral Studies: Chamber Choir. This group is for students who show vocal potential and a desire to improve at their craft. An audition/invitation only class, this is a mixed group which performs intermediate to advanced repertoire and builds a solid foundation in music theory, history and performance techniques. This group may compete in multiple choral festivals as well as perform in a variety of public performances.

In addition to a rich and varied repertoire of choral literature, students will have an opportunity to be introduced to advanced vocal techniques through the performing of solos in class and in public. Success in this course may lead to advancement into other R.S.A. groups such as Advanced Women’s Choir or the P.A. Singers.

Beginning Mixed Choir

Mixed Choir: Music Appreciation/Choral Emphasis. This Class is for students who possess a love of music and want to gain an appreciation of the elements involved with becoming a participant in musical activities. This will be achieved by studying music and performances from a variety of genres and reflecting upon them. In addition, a study of music history and theory will give the background and appropriate vocabulary to analyze performances studied. Concepts learned will be applied to performing choral literature aligned to the curriculum. This class is a non-audition course and is open to all students who want to explore music and develop their own voice. This class will help tremendously with confidence in all aspects of life.

Music Appreciation/Choral Emphasis is an introduction to choral music and performance. It is in a large group setting, forty or more. This actually helps with beginning groups as there is safety in numbers when you are first exploring your voice. Students enjoy this class very much, but more importantly it is an opportunity to master the skills necessary to be promoted to an advanced class at the completion of this course. Full participation is a must.
